Dear Wayne-Westland Families,

While the weather tells us it is still summer, all stores are stocked with their Back to School items. It won’t be long before our students return to the practice fields, the hallways, and the classrooms.
We look forward to beginning the 2023-24 school year from a position of strength. The adoption of the Wayne-Westland Strategic Plan, the significant program enhancements through teaching and learning, as well as improvements to our school facilities, have created the foundation for a great year.
If this school year has a theme, it is rooted in our mission of inspiring remarkable achievement. It is a theme that goes deeper than any single program or service. As we emphasize inspiring remarkable achievement, we will have districtwide conversations to identify what works and what might change so that we continue to innovate, improve and help our students succeed. The first step to helping our students succeed is to ensure they are ready for the start of the new school year.
Here is some information that will help our students have a successful start to the school year.
First Day of School
- Tuesday, August 29, 2023
- Half-day of school for elementary students- students will attend school in the morning.
- Full day of school for middle and high school students.
All Families MUST Update/Verify Contact Information in Parent Connect
- Log in to ParentConnection using your PIN and password and click on the red “Back to School Registration” link at the top of the page.
- Click through each link confirming or changing any information and then click "submit and save."
- If you have more than one student, you MUST repeat this process for each child so that we have accurate contact information for each student in an emergency.
Register for Transportation
- A section in Parent Connect asks if you want transportation (elementary students have to live more than one mile from the school; middle and high school students have to live more than 1.5 miles from the school to be eligible. If your dwelling meets these qualifications and you want your child to ride the bus, you MUST check YES or a bus route will NOT be assigned.
Attendance Protocols
We are preparing for the new academic year and the excitement it brings. The 2023-2024 approved district calendar is available and provides a variety of important dates for the school year, including the district recesses, parent-teacher conferences and national holidays.
Wayne-Westland Community Schools has updated its attendance protocols, and we look forward to collaborating with you next school year to encourage regular student attendance. The protocols outline the district’s actions when student absences become excessive or chronic.
Crossing Guards Needed
Are you interested in giving back to the community and helping protect our community’s children? The Westland Police Department is looking for candidates to serve as crossing guards.
