Dear Wayne-Westland Community Students, Staff and Families,

Happy Sunday. I hope you all are enjoying the end of a wonderful weekend. We also had some exciting events in the District this week.

On Tuesday, our College and Career Readiness Department hosted the District's first Wayne-Westland on the Yard: A Historically Black College & Universities (HBCU) Fair and Experience. More than 300+ students and families attended the event that offered students the options available to connect their talents with individuals and organizations offering pathways to rewarding careers. Look for more events and opportunities from the College and Career Readiness Department.

On Wednesday, the William D. Ford Career-Technical Center hosted its 5th annual Job Fair with over 60 vendors. This event was open to the public and our high school students also had the opportunity to attend the event.

As we near the end of the school year, there is a lot of information to share with you.

Steering Committee Application
Walker-Winter Elementary School was scheduled to close at the end of the 2021-22 school year. Instead, it will continue as a traditional K-5 elementary school for the 2022-23 school year. The District is forming a Steering Committee to develop a plan for the future of Walker-Winter for the 23-24 school year and beyond. These plans may include developing a magnet school or closing the building. If you would like to be considered for the committee, please complete this application by May 15, 2022.

Mental Health Awareness Month
May is National Mental Health Awareness Month. Here in Wayne-Westland Community Schools, Mental Health Matters. Our District's Mental Health Task Force works with our staff to support mental health awareness.

Our District will also be hosting a free virtual  Mental Health Symposium on Suicide Prevention at 7 p.m. on May 3. During this event, we will be sharing information on warning signs, available resources, seeking support for your child and what to expect after receiving help.
