Regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic success. Please make every effort to ensure your child attends school on time every day and stays throughout the whole day. Consistent attendance throughout the school day allows your child to engage in learning and maximize their educational opportunities fully.

Illness: If your child is not feeling well and cannot attend school, please notify us immediately. Students who are ill should not attend school to prevent the spread of illness to others.

Excused Absences: We understand that there may be instances when your child needs to be absent due to illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or other legitimate reasons. Please notify the school in advance whenever possible to classify the absence as excused.

Unexcused Absences: Unexcused absences negatively impact your child's education. Absences without valid reasons will be considered unexcused, and appropriate actions may be taken per district policy.

Timely reporting of absences helps us maintain accurate attendance records and ensures that your child's absence is properly documented. Absences must be reported within 24 hours

There are two convenient methods for reporting your child's absence to facilitate efficient communication and accurate attendance records.

  • You can notify your child's school through the dedicated attendance line. Please leave a detailed message stating your child's name, grade, and reason for absence.

  • You can report absences directly through MiStar, our secure online portal for student information. MiStar provides a user-friendly interface that allows you to submit absences.

Additional information can be found in the Wayne-Westland Community School District Handbook and Code of Conduct.

NUTRITION

The monthly lunch menus can be found by visiting the Food and Nutrition Service webpage

Wayne-Westland Community Schools continues to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the 2024-2025 school year. Our participation in CEP ensures that all enrolled students receive a healthy breakfast and lunch daily at NO CHARGE to your household.

To maintain our program status, parents and guardians are asked to complete and sign the Education Benefits Formwhich is also located on the Meal Magic Family Portal, and return it to your child's school as soon as possible. The information on the form is needed for administrative purposes, not to determine eligibility.

  1. Written permission from the student’s parent or guardian and their physician must be on file in the school office before any medication can be given. This must include – student’s name, medication, dose, time to be given, and physician’s signature. The Medication Authorization form can be found at the link below, or a copy can be obtained from the school office.

  2. Prescription medication must be in the ORIGINAL CONTAINER FROM THE PHARMACY clearly marked with the student’s name, medication, dosage, expiration date and time to be given.

  3. Non-prescription medication must be in the original container with the label intact.

  4. An adult must bring all medications to the school office. Medication MAY NOT be hand carried to school by students unless medication authorization forms are on file.

This form is REQUIRED FOR ALL MEDICATIONS, including over-the-counter items such as aspirin, cold remedies, cough medicines, cough drops, eye drops, ointments, etc. No medication of any kind is to be sent to school to be taken independently by the student without the necessary paperwork on file. It is the responsibility of the parent to secure the information from the physician along with the required signature.
