How do I find my child's teacher assignment or schedule?
Teacher assignments and schedules are located in the MiStar ParentConnection. Information is uploaded the week before the first day of classes.
What are the school's start and dismissal times?
Please reference the information below for your school's information.
Is there before and after school care offered?
Champions offers programming at all of our elementary schools before and after school, during seasonal breaks, and on most non-school days. See our Champions page for more information.
What are the attendance protocols?
Regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic success. Please make every effort to ensure your child attends school on time every day and stays throughout the whole day. Consistent attendance throughout the school day allows your child to engage in learning and maximize their educational opportunities fully.
Illness: If your child is not feeling well and cannot attend school, please notify us immediately. Students who are ill should not attend school to prevent the spread of illness to others.
Excused Absences: We understand that there may be instances when your child needs to be absent due to illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or other legitimate reasons. Please notify the school in advance whenever possible to classify the absence as excused.
Unexcused Absences: Unexcused absences negatively impact your child's education. Absences without valid reasons will be considered unexcused, and appropriate actions may be taken per district policy.
Timely reporting of absences helps us maintain accurate attendance records and ensures that your child's absence is properly documented. Absences must be reported within 24 hours.
There are two convenient methods for reporting your child's absence to facilitate efficient communication and accurate attendance records.
You can notify your child's school through the dedicated attendance line. Please leave a detailed message stating your child's name, grade, and reason for absence.
You can report absences directly through MiStar, our secure online portal for student information. MiStar provides a user-friendly interface that allows you to submit absences.
Additional information can be found in the Wayne-Westland Community School District Handbook and Code of Conduct.
NUTRITION
Where do I find the lunch menus?
The monthly lunch menus can be found by visiting the Food and Nutrition Service webpage.

To maintain our program status, parents and guardians are asked to complete and sign the Education Benefits Form, which is also located on the Meal Magic Family Portal, and return it to your child's school as soon as possible. The information on the form is needed for administrative purposes, not to determine eligibility.

HEALTH SERVICES
What if my child needs to take medicine at school?
Wayne-Westland Community Schools and the State of Michigan law prohibit school employees from dispensing medication to students without written permission from the student’s physician and parent. If medication must be administered at school, the following are necessary.
- Written permission from the student’s parent or guardian and their physician must be on file in the school office before any medication can be given. This must include – student’s name, medication, dose, time to be given, and physician’s signature. The Medication Authorization form can be found at the link below, or a copy can be obtained from the school office.
Medication Authorization Form
-
Prescription medication must be in the ORIGINAL CONTAINER FROM THE PHARMACY clearly marked with the student’s name, medication, dosage, expiration date and time to be given.
-
Non-prescription medication must be in the original container with the label intact.
-
An adult must bring all medications to the school office. Medication MAY NOT be hand carried to school by students unless medication authorization forms are on file.
This form is REQUIRED FOR ALL MEDICATIONS, including over-the-counter items such as aspirin, cold remedies, cough medicines, cough drops, eye drops, ointments, etc. No medication of any kind is to be sent to school to be taken independently by the student without the necessary paperwork on file. It is the responsibility of the parent to secure the information from the physician along with the required signature. Please contact the school office or school nurse if you have further questions about the parameters surrounding medications.
How do I submit my child's athletic physical?
All students who wish to participate during the school year must submit an MHSAA Pre-Participation Physical and Medical History form before the first day of tryouts/practice.
