We have read a total of 82,325 minutes! Keep up the great job in logging those minutes for your kiddos. Don't give up, we're almost THERE!
As part of our special celebration, we will be working together as a Hicks family to beat a pretty BIG goal, reading 100,000 minutes as a school, but we KNOW we can do it! For every 10 minutes your child reads or is read to at night, color in a piece of their dragon page and submit completed pages to your child's teacher. Each week there will be classroom winners that get fun prizes and at the end of the month, some students will get to PIE MRS. GEE IN THE FACE! The kickstart was a gigantic success. We are so excited to see our newest innovating Hornets come to Hicks next school year. If you missed out on all the fun please make sure you contact the office to ensure your child is registered for the 2024-25 school year. A big thanks to the kindergarten teachers Mrs. Brewster, Mrs. Dugan and Mrs. Watanabe for organizing a superb event for the community! Thank you everyone for coming out!

February is the month to celebrate all African Americans and their momentous moments that have impacted history.
For this week we will celebrate some notable figures from history. The two abolitionists, Frederick Douglas and Harriet Tubman that fought to have President Lincoln sign the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st, 1863. Click here to watch a video. This landmark document outlawed slavery in the South.
Frederick Douglass, fun fact he self-taught himself how to read and write at AGE 12. Click HERE to learn more about him.
Harriet Tubman, fun fact she was known as Moses and led 19 separate excursions of African Americans to freedom along the underground railroad, nobody rescued more African Americans than her. Click HERE to learn more about her.
