Medical Assisting
Medical Assisting I: 1 year - 3 credits
Medical Assisting is an instructional program, which focuses on the skills needed to be employed in an outpatient medical facility. Both clerical and clinical skills will be covered. Clerical skills include computer applications, telephone communications, patient accounting and insurance billing, appointment scheduling and medical office management. Clinical skills include EKG, blood drawing, medication administration, injections, vital signs, sterile technique and laboratory procedures. Anatomy, medical terminology and CPR/first aid are also covered in depth.
Medical Assisting II: 1 year - 3 credits
Prerequisite: Certificate of Completion from Medical Assisting I and instructor's recommendation
Students will continue to improve competencies in specialized areas and will have an opportunity to participate in multiple, unpaid clinical experiences in a medical office/clinic. Students will focus on medical transcription, advanced clinical and computer skills.
