Integrated Web & Database Design

Integrated Web Design:  1 year - 3 credits

This course is designed to provide students a solid foundation in creating dynamic web sites.  Students begin by creating basic web pages using the Dreamweaver MX 2004 suite.  As students develop more pages and create an integrated site, they are also introduced to other applications within the suite including Flash and Fireworks.

The second stage of the class involves developing dynamic sites that require a database running behind the scenes.  Students learn the basics of SQL (Structured Query Language), with an emphasis on MySQL, as well as some of the basics of PHP.  All of these tools build toward the eventual planning and creation of actual database-driven web sites which solve real-world needs.  Student projects include conducting interviews and researching the needs of various non-profit groups in the community to develop web sites for them.
