Digital Media

Digital Media I:  1 year - 3 credits

Prerequisite:  Strong computer skills are essential.  Familiarity with Mac OS will be helpful, but not required.  Additionally, students entering this class should have an artistic or technical interest in media production, computer art, digital photography, editing, special effects and/or graphics.

In this program, students will be introduced to multiple digital applications using a variety of hardware and software programs.  In the first year we will concentrate on:

1.  Digital photography:  Image manipulation, lighting, photo retouching, color adjustment, scanning, converting film to digital formats, creating professional prints and presentation skills.

2.  Animation:  Will include 2D computer animation incorporating traditional concepts with digital cameras and computers.

3.  Video:  Will include planning, producing and editing digital video projects geared toward commercials, documentaries, instructional, entertainment, live events and music videos.

Digital Media II:  1 year - 3 credits

Prerequisite:  Certificate of Completion from Digital Media I and instructor's recommendation

Advanced students will work on more complex projects incorpoating DVD authoring and 3D animation, with a final showcase project developed in cooperation with a community business or Wayne-Westland teacher or school department/building.

Due to the Center's Tech Prep relationship with nearby community colleges, those students successfully completing this program may earn college credit for digital media skills learned at the Center.  (See below)
