The Oracle Academy offers two distinct years of technical training. The first year spans a variety of fields pertaining to the design and management of databases. First semester of the class is called Database Fundamentals and second semester is called Database Programming. Oracle Corporation has designed the program to give students a strong background constructing data models (the planning stages of a database). Once the student becomes proficient in making efficient models, s/he learns how to manage data through SQL (Structured Query Language). SQL is a programming tool allowing the user to search, combine and modify data. It is also a standard among a variety of databases that allows the user to change the structure of the database itself. This course is intended for students interested in careers in information technology or computer engineering.
Oracle Academy II: 1 year - 2 credits
Prerequisite: Certificate of Completion from Oracle Academy I and instructor's recommendation
The second year of the Oracle Academy also consists of two subsections: Semester 1 is Java Fundamentals and semester 2 is Java Programming. Java is a programming standard used on a variety of platforms (e.g. Windows, Macintosh, Linus, etc.) and is the successor of languages such as C and C++. It has become one of the most used programming tools for Internet-based applications. This course is intended for students who want to pursue a career in a high-tech field, particularly one in engineering or computer programming. The course is similar to a beginning level college course in computer science. Students are encouraged to prepare for and take the advanced placement computer science test. A high score on the A.P. test can lead to college credit.
