With the rapidly changing employment market and exploding technologies our country will experience into the 21st century, it is essential that schools and industry work cooperatively toward the common goal of preparing educated, critical thinking, skilled workers.

Since its opening in 1981, the William D. Ford Career-Technical Center has aggressively served youth and adults of Southeastern Michigan by preparing over 15,000 highly skilled workers for jobs and careers with a future.

We have been successful in meeting the challenge to produce those educated, critical thinking, highly skilled workers through our:

• State-of-the art training equipment and machinery
• 23 technical training programs
• Business/industry trained and State certificated instructors
• Extensive student support services
• Aggressive job placement
• Business/industry coordinated training curriculum
• Active and involved business/industry advisory committees
• Supportive school board and community

We remain committed to providing both high school aged youth and underemployed/unemployed adults the best training possible. This will be accomplished by way of a hands-on approach to learning where theory is acquired through extensive practice on industry specific equipment and practical job related projects.

 

We, the William D. Ford Career-Technical Center Staff, will prepare our students with the knowledge, technological proficiency, and personal skills essential for success in an increasingly complex society.

...to College Credits

Students who complete a one or two year program at the Ford Career-Technical Center may qualify for articulated credits through Henry Ford Community College, Wayne County Community College, Baker College, or Ferris State University. Articulated credit is free college credit that is applied to a student's transcript after completing a designated amount of courses at the college/university. The amount ranges from 3 to 18 credits and is determined by the program completed and the community college/university attended. At Ferris State University, articulated credit is determined by placement test.

Most programs at the Center have articulation agreements with colleges that are specific to that program. Please look at the various programs offered, and they will list the articulated credits available.

Tech Prep is a course of study designed to prepare students with a more technically oriented education background. This is accomplished through the coordinated efforts of the Center, local high schools, business, industry, labor, and community colleges. The Tech Prep program provides a structured sequence of high school course work which includes applied academics and career-technical classes. Emphasis is placed on creating a seamless transition from high school to post-secondary institutions with advanced college credit awarded in some career-technical areas.
