Library and Media Services

The district is implementing a comprehensive technology plan. Students and staff will utilize technological access and information gathering capabilities as an integral part of classroom instruction.

The district has a K-12 media coordinator and media information teachers in all elementary schools. New books were purchased for all of the libraries and the shelf collections were greatly expanded. Also, all of the libraries were automated so that borrowing books will be easy and maintaining the inventories will be accurate.

✦ On-line courses: Wayne-Westland Community Schools continue to offer a number of on-line Advance Placement courses at the high school level. These courses, delivered through the Michigan Virtual High School, offer opportunities for Wayne-Westland students to gain college credit in curriculum areas not currently offered by classroom teachers. We also offer a number of credit reclamation courses on-line through our Adult and Community Education program.

✦ Computer class: A new, one-semester computer class was piloted for 7th and 8th graders at Marshall Middle School, and will be offered in all middle schools next year. The course is designed to develop an understanding of computer concepts and some essential computer skills such as the windows operating
system, the network environment, and word processing.
